When it comes to music, one can safely say that Saint Lucia has birthed some uniquely talented musicians who above all portray an extraordinary level of versatility and professionalism towards their craft.
Kynon Bousquet known by his artist name Krazy K Di Baddest is no exception. This multifaceted Saint Lucian artist and producer has been taking Florida by storm with a multitude of hits ranging from Dancehall to Soca to Dennery Segment and much more.
Kynon was born and raised in Saint Lucia but moved to Florida in 2006. Although he grew up in church like many other artists, surprisingly, his singing career did not begin there. Instead, he adopted freestyling from his dad, who back in the day was a freestyler.
“It’s funny that I grew up in a church but did not start singing in a church. My dad [journalist Alex Bousquet] in the day used to go around freestyling before he was in news and all that stuff. So, I kind of picked it up from him. He used to have all those dancehall cassettes and soca cassettes, I used to play and I actually used to DJ at first. I started off as a DJ and then I felt like I can do like these guys are doing or even better and then I started singing with some of my friends from Saint Lucia.”
During his eight-year tenure as an artist, Kynon has collaborated with a number of local musicians such as Motto, Migos and Matta, Umpa, Prospere, and the ever-popular producer Ransum Records. He was also nominated for ‘Best Florida Soca Artist’at the International Soca Awards for his 2018 single ‘Step Inside’. Although the nomination was a huge accomplishment, the young artist said it is tough being a Saint Lucian artist in the US.
“Being an artist from Saint Lucia in the States is tough. A lot of people think it would be easier but it’s kinda tough because as a Saint Lucian artist putting out Saint Lucian music, it’s kind of like you have to break into Saint Lucia, and seems like you’re an outsider. But performances since the Dennery Segment has been popping.”
As for his latest release, Kynon says the dancehall song is dedicated to the ladies.
“My latest release is actually a dancehall track for the ladies called ‘Every Night’. It’s nothing special how I came up with it, I just got in the studio, whatever beat came out at the time, however, I was feeling, that beat gave me a vibe for the ladies so I was like you know what let me just sing that tune real quick. For some reason, I come up with girl tunes really fast.”
The co-owner of Krazy Records/Mydasounds has hailed COVID a blessing in that it has allowed him time to focus more on recording and releasing new tunes and putting in a lot more work into mastering his craft. He advises anyone going into the music industry to be patient and ensure that what you want to do is your passion. Above all, believe in yourself.
