5 COVID-19 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours; 40 new cases

The Ministry of Health and Wellness has announced the recording of five more COVID-19-related deaths locally, including three that occurred before but was under investigation, plus what has been described as a coincidental death that was also under investigation.

The six deaths overall were recorded over a 24-hour period up to Saturday afternoon.

The latest recorded deaths are as follows:

– A 44-year-old male from Westmoreland;

– A 77-year-old female from St Ann;

– A 66-year-old female from Kingston and St Andrew;

– An 86-year-old female from Kingston and St Andrew;

– A 70-year-old male from Kingston and St Andrew; and the β€˜coincidental death’, of which no more detail was presented.

Additionally, the ministry has advised of 40 new cases of the virus over the same 24-hour period, bringing the total number of confirmed positive cases nationally to 10,709.

The new cases include 17 males and 23 females.

The ages among the new cases range from five to 78 years.

Kingston and St Andrew with 14, and St Ann eight, accounted for most of the new cases.

Over the 24-hour period, a total of 704 samples were tested, the ministry reported.

And recoveries also increased significantly, with 113 cases being recorded over the one-day period.

The ministry also reported that of 66 persons now hospitalized with the virus, 12 are classified as being moderately ill, while seven are classified as being critically ill.
